The recorded use of Mullein as a herbal remedy dates as far back as 2000 years with Dioscorides mentioning it as a treatment for pulmonary complaints. It is still used for the same today by Medical Herbalists, its demulcent and expectorant properties help expel congestion from the lungs and its mucilage content coats and soothes irritated mucus membranes.
An infused oil of the flowers of Mullein are an effective external application for the treatment of earache.
